Like many other afflictions, catching a nail fungus infection early and beginning treatment before the infection has had a chance to really set in helps tremendously increase your odds of getting rid of it. There are rumors out there about everyday products that we all have in our homes being good toenail fungus cures. We do not recommend using any of these for treatment for any extended period of time and we highly recommend getting a reputable nail fungus treatment product as soon as possible. However, these products may have some positive effects if used immediately after an infection is noticed and before you are able to get a real treatment applied.
Vicks Vapor Rub. Many people have reported noticing some improvement in their infections when rubbing Vicks on to it. It is not known what the active ingredient is in Vicks that does this but their appears to be some positive effects from the sheer number of reports. However, there are also many reports that state the person saw no improvements in the nail infection and that the nail fungus actually got stronger.
Listerine. Pouring some Listerine on the point of infection daily reportedly gets some decent results.
Lemon juice. The acidic level of lemons is probably what has some effect in killing the fungi.
Vinegar. Probably the same effect as lemon juice.
Hair coloring products. This one can be a little dangerous and we don’t recommend it. There are some powerful chemicals in most of these products and they can irritate the skin and nail badly if used too much.
